When to Replace

Signs Your Door Needs Replacing

Most homeowners put up with a failing door longer than they should. By the time it's obviously broken, it's been costing you in energy, security, and comfort. Here's what to look for — and what we address.

Warped or Swollen Frame
A door that sticks seasonally — swells in summer, gaps in winter — has a frame that's moved. Repeated adjustment is a short-term fix. Replacement with a properly fitted door and frame is the right answer.
Drafts and Energy Loss
If you feel cold air around a closed exterior door, the weatherstripping has failed or the door no longer sits square in the opening. A properly installed replacement door seals completely — reducing heating and cooling costs.
Rotted or Damaged Frame
Wood rot around the door frame or threshold is a structural issue. It compromises the door's ability to seal, lock, and hold hardware securely. We remove the damaged unit, address the framing, and install a proper replacement.
Storm or Impact Damage
A cracked panel, bent frame, or damaged threshold after a storm can't be patched back to code. We replace the full door unit — panel, frame, and hardware — and make sure the new installation is weathertight.
Security Concerns
An older door with a weak frame, outdated lock prep, or soft core material is a security liability. Modern ProVia and Andersen doors are engineered for forced-entry resistance. We install with proper hardware and multi-point locking where applicable.
Outdated Appearance
A faded, peeling, or dated door hurts curb appeal and resale value. Replacing the entry door is consistently one of the highest ROI home improvement projects — and one of the most visible upgrades you can make.

Common Questions

Door Replacement FAQs

Door replacement costs vary by door type, brand, and the condition of the existing opening. A standard exterior door replacement typically runs $600–$1,400 installed, including removal and disposal of the old unit. Reframing work, sidelights, or premium brands add to the cost. We provide a written quote after your free in-home assessment — no guesswork.
Minor issues — sticky latches, worn weatherstripping, loose hinges — are typically repairable. Rotted frames, warped slabs, failed seals, or security vulnerabilities usually warrant full replacement. We assess every door honestly during your free estimate and give you a clear recommendation. See our door repair page for more on what's fixable without replacing.
We are authorized installers for Francis-Schulze Doors, Andersen, and United Window & Door. Each brand offers different product lines, materials, and style options. We'll help you choose based on your security needs, your home's aesthetic, and your budget.
Most exterior door replacements are completed in one day — often in three to five hours for a standard swap. Jobs requiring reframing, sidelight work, or structural repairs take longer. We give you a clear timeline in the written proposal before work begins.
Yes — and this is exactly where our carpentry background matters. Older homes in Cincinnati and Clermont County often have settled frames, non-standard rough openings, or wood rot around the threshold. We assess the structure, reframe where necessary, and ensure the new door is properly supported before installation.
Yes. All hardware — deadbolts, handle sets, smart locks, and multi-point locking systems — is installed and tested as part of the replacement. We don't reinstall old hardware on a new door unless you specifically request it and it's compatible.
Yes. We offer financing through Synchrony, allowing qualified homeowners to spread the cost over time. Ask about available plans during your free in-home estimate.
